Tendon transfer for irreparable subscapularis tears

About the award. The AGA Research Award recognizes leading presentations and particularly well-designed studies at the annual congress.

The research recognized. Using a dynamic shoulder simulator, the international research group showed that an anterior latissimus dorsi transfer can restore the disrupted shoulder force couple and improve joint kinematics.

Biological augmentation in rotator cuff repair

About the award. The poster award recognizes leading scientific posters in clinical research and biomechanics or basic science.

The research recognized. This in-vitro study investigated how magnesium and PRP, separately and in combination, influence the adhesion and proliferation of progenitor cells from subacromial bursa tissue on surgical suture material.

Joint loads after a supraspinatus tear and repair

About the award. This international ISAKOS award recognizes the leading upper-extremity contribution in the scientific congress program.

The research recognized. In a biomechanical model, the study showed that increased joint loads caused by a supraspinatus tear could be normalized by rotator cuff repair.

Research interests

Joint function, injury and a safe return to activity.

The research addresses musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries. It examines questions directly relevant to clinical practice: which factors influence an outcome, how shoulder and knee injuries can be better understood, and when returning to training or competition is medically reasonable.

Clinical studies, systematic reviews and biomechanical investigations address different parts of the same question. Measurements are not an end in themselves. They should help make diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation easier to understand.
